Privacy policy
Last updated 4 October 2026
This policy explains what information Hey Nellie collects through this website, why we collect it, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. Hey Nellie’s tutoring isn’t open yet, so this policy covers the website and its waitlist only.
Who we are
This website is run by Sophia Abanador (“Hey Nellie”, “we”, “us”). We decide how the information described here is used. You can reach us about anything in this policy at abanadorsophia@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you join the waitlist, we collect:
- your name;
- your email address;
- your child’s age, only if you choose to share it;
- that you agreed to hear from us about Hey Nellie;
- the date and time you signed up.
We don’t ask for your child’s name, photo, voice, school or anything else about them. Please don’t include any of those details in the form.
When you visit the website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information needed to deliver the pages and keep the site secure, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested.
What we don’t use: the website sets no cookies and runs no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Our fonts are served from our own site, so loading a page doesn’t send your details to a font service.
How we use it
- To tell you when Hey Nellie opens and send occasional updates about it.
- To understand which ages families are interested in, so we build for them. We look at this in aggregate.
- To run the website, keep it secure, and stop spam and abuse of the waitlist form.
We don’t sell or rent your information, we don’t use it for advertising, and we don’t use it to train AI models.
If you’re in the UK or European Economic Area, we rely on your consent to email you (you can withdraw it at any time) and on our legitimate interest in running a secure website for the technical information described above.
Who helps us handle it
We use a small number of service providers, who handle information on our behalf:
- Google stores the waitlist, in Google Sheets.
- Vercel hosts the website and keeps its technical logs.
If we start using an email service to send updates, we’ll add it to this list before we do. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or others.
These providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Both offer contractual safeguards for international transfers.
How long we keep it
We keep your waitlist details while the waitlist is open, or until you ask us to remove them, whichever comes first. If Hey Nellie doesn’t launch, we’ll delete the list. Technical logs are kept by our hosting provider for a short period under its own retention rules.
Your choices and rights
- Stop hearing from us: reply to any of our emails, or write to abanadorsophia@gmail.com.
- See, correct or delete your information, or get a copy of it: write to abanadorsophia@gmail.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, for example under the GDPR in the UK and EU or under California law, including the right to object to how we use your information and to complain to your local data protection authority. We’ll answer every request within 30 days, and we won’t treat you differently for making one.
Children
This website is for parents and other adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children, and the waitlist asks only for a parent’s details plus, if you choose, your child’s age. If you think a child has sent us information, write to abanadorsophia@gmail.com and we’ll delete it.
Hey Nellie’s tutoring will be used by children. Before it collects any information from or about a child, we’ll publish a separate privacy notice for the product and ask for a parent’s verifiable consent, as laws such as the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) require.
Keeping it safe
Information sent through the website is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access to the waitlist is limited to the people who need it to run Hey Nellie, and only our website can add to it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll email you first.
